Press Release & Diary Date

Futuresource 2009
9-11 June 2009
London ExCeL

New venue, new partnership, new show… and a new name

… and 23% of floorspace sold on the first day!

At an exhibitor open day at London ExCeL last week, CIWM and ESA officially launched the 2009 conference and exhibition, announcing the new name and branding, as well as floorplan details and pricing arrangements.

CIWM Chief Executive Steve Lee and ESA Chairman Richard Skehens unveiled the new name, Futuresource (pronounced Future Resource), which reflects the fact that the future is about resources, whether man made or natural, and encapsulates the issues of the waste sector, which is now expanding rapidly beyond its traditional boundaries.  With the strapline ‘Europe’s sustainability event’, the aim is to establish the event as a key diary date for companies and professionals involved in the management of waste and resources not just in the UK but throughout Europe and farther afield.

Steve Lee went on to explain how the CIWM will be pursuing a comprehensive marketing strategy to promote the new show, including a presence at major European events over the next 12 months, visitor incentive packages, and a targeted approach to key buyers identified by exhibitors.

The presentations then moved to cover specific information relating to the new venue and the format of the event in 2009, including the use of colour-coded themed areas to make it easier for visitors to identify areas of interest.

Exhibitors had a tour of the International Wine & Spirits Fair followed by lunch and were clearly impressed by what they had seen and heard. Including some of the biggest names in the business – such as Isuzu, Heil, Modec, Ford, Taylor, Scarab, Farid and WAMITAB – 33 companies signed up for next year’s show on the spot, booking around 23% of the total floor space.

“It was a hugely successful day,” says CIWM Chief Executive Steve Lee, “and we are delighted that so many exhibitors saw for themselves the enormous benefits that the new location will provide in terms of the quality of the facilities, the significant pulling power of this international venue, and the stunning waterfront location.”
