Recognition for the waste industry in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List
The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) extends its warmest congratulations to the five CIWM members named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List:
• CIWM Fellow Peter Jones, Director of Development & External Affairs for Biffa – OBE for services to the environment;
• CIWM Honorary Fellow Julia Sturrock, formerly Dundee City Council and SEPA – OBE for services to the environment and to sustainable development in Scotland;
• CIWM Honorary Fellow Professor Peter Matthews, Chairman and Director of Pelican Portfolio – OBE for services to the water industry and to the environment;
• CIWM Member Peter Gerard Kelly, Environment Agency – MBE for services to the Environment Agency and to the community in Hampshire; and
• CIWM Affiliate Member Ian Thompson, former Waste Service Manager for Forest Heath District Council – MBE for services to local government.
CIWM Chief Executive Steve Lee says: ”There is growing recognition of the important contribution that waste and resources management can make to improving our environment and tackling climate change. The honours conferred on these CIWM members, and other professionals working in the environmental field, further demonstrate this.
”I am delighted that the high level of professionalism and commitment in our industry has been acknowledged in this way, and these awards will act as an inspiration to everyone involved in developing a more sustainable and resource efficient approach to managing our wastes.”
