National Data Strategy Communications CD

CIWM (EB) was commissioned by the Defra WIP programme to design and produce a communications CD to inform waste managers and data providers on the National Waste Data Strategy

Objectives
Information is vital to all decision making and the waste industry is no exception.  If we are to improve resource efficient, divert waste away from landfill and achieve sustainable flows of materials through our economy we need quality data on the waste we make.  However, a lack of information on specific waste streams, growth rates, compositions and life cycles has been hampering the development of an effective policy for waste reduction and our ability to monitor progress effectively.  The aim of the National Waste Data Strategy is to reverse this situation by providing high quality, easily accessed, timely data on waste flows and final destinations from a single centralised point, accessible through the Defra website.

We take information technology for granted, with little thought about what goes on behind the screen.  However, it's important that users understand the work that has been involved in building a reliable, centralised, waste data resource - not only so they have confidence in accessing it but also appreciate how they can contribute to its success by reporting data accurately and electronically.  This CD will help you understand the new strategy and how you can get the best from it.
