Salvation Army Recycling Point at CIWM Exhibition may 2005

Today’s society faces big and complex environmental problems but, making the point that small actions do make a difference, the Salvation Army will be running a Recycling Point on Preston Green at the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management’s (CIWM) Conference and Exhibition in Paignton from 14-16 June.

The Salvation Army and CIWM are inviting local people and delegates to bring unwanted shoes, trainers, books, videos, CDs and computer games to the recycling point.

The Salvation Army has been actively involved in recycling unwanted household items, and particularly clothes, for 14 years, using the funds raised for charity projects. They have been represented at the CIWM Exhibition for several years but the Recycling Point this year is a first for the event.

The items being collected have been selected because they are easy to bring along but clearly take up precious space in the household when they are no longer wanted.

Garth Ward, The Salvation Army’s national recycling co-ordinator says: ‘We’d like to see as many people as possible coming to our stand – don’t just leave it to others. These items are of value to someone even though they might seem too small to bother about. This is a real opportunity to make a difference to both the environment and humanity.’

The Salvation Army Recycling Point can be found at stand P21 on Preston Green.
