Recycling

spacerspacerspacerspacerspacer
Company Description spacerThe core business of the company is primarily the purchasing of a wide variety of waste plastics from recycling companies throughout the UK and Ireland. This material is then either reprocessed by ourselves or sold on to plastics reprocessing companies in the UK and overseas.

Over the previous 2 to 3 years, we have seen a sustained increase in the amount of post consumer plastic bottles purchased from our regular suppliers. As a UK Environment Agency Approved Exporter we have, until recently, exported this material to approved outlets in Hong Kong.

With volumes of bottles brokered exceeding 2000 ton per month we were able to justify sorting and processing the mixed plastic bottles in the UK. This has led to the opening of our new Hemswell plastic bottle sorting / processing plant. The 45,000 square feet Hemswell site in Lincolnshire was selected for its central location relative to the existing UK and Irish feedstock supply.

It is one of the most technically advanced plants in Europe, much of Hemswells sorting technology is provided by German company Titech. The majority of the plastic bottles processed at Hemswell end up being granulated into a flake at the plant, prior to sale to plastic companies both in the UK and overseas. The plastic recovered from the bottles ends up in a wide variety of new plastic products including fleece jackets, pipes, packaging, toys etc. Hemswell is the largest plastic bottle sorting plant in the UK. The plant was constructed to allow for the installation, if required, of a second line which will allow the doubling of current maximum bottle processing capacity from 30,000 ton to 60,000 ton per annum.

The directors of the company aim to establish AWS as the major buyer of waste plastics in the UK and Ireland within the next 3 years. Continued expansion of AWS’s UK plastics processing capacity will be combined with projected growth in the trading of recyclable material.

We have the ability to purchase a wide variety of recyclable material. The main criteria we require applies to all grades of material in that :

• Material must be clean and dry.
• Material must be securely packaged in an easily transportable form i.e. baled or bagged.
• The supplier needs a fork truck and the ability to load a wagon at the supplier’s site.
• The supplier needs the ability to store a minimum load of 8 – 24 ton depending on material.

A determination exists within the company to maintain current high standards of customer service and product quality assurance.
