Do you need an understanding of local environmental management?
This course delivers a comprehensive overview of the policy drivers, regulatory framework, roles and responsibilities, and control mechanisms for local environmental management.
What’s in it for me?
By the end of this course you will:
• understand the aspects of waste management that influence local environmental quality (LEQ) and the obligations of industry and local authorities in protecting the local environment through good waste management practice.
• understand the policy context, legislative drivers and formal roles and responsibilities both in the public and private sectors.
• have knowledge of the key regulations, responsibilities, approaches and control mechanisms for maintaining and enhancing LEQ.
• appreciate the obligations, powers and approaches from the perspective of both the private and private sector.
• review your personal role and responsibilities within the street scene context and consider the importance of interactions between the different parties involved in maintaining LEQ.
• appreciate of the range of factors that affect the local environment.
• understand the mechanism of regulation and enforcement, covering specific provisions relevant to both the public and private sectors, covering bother existing powers and new provisions under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 and the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003.
• appreciate of some of the more challenging issues for environmental managers, including community interactions, proportional enforcement, public-private partnerships and voluntary agreements and conflicts between enforcement targets and waste crime prevention.
• A framework for identifying positive actions to take back to your workplace.
